My wife Mary and I moved to Monroe in 1988, a young couple looking to start our family in beautiful Orange County. Here we raised our three children, all of them graduating from the Monroe-Woodbury School District. We are now blessed with three beautiful grandchildren.
I recently retired from the Fire Department of New York, after a career which spanned 38 years, starting as a young “proby” firefighter in Brooklyn and ending as a Battalion Chief in midtown Manhattan. Here I oversaw the operational and administrative needs of one of the busiest fire battalions in the world. Besides my extensive operational responsibilities, I also was the FDNY Technical Advisor to the NYC Building Department where I was a contributing member to the 2014 and 2022 Elevator Building Code. As a lead instructor at the Fire Academy’s Chief’s Command Course and Captains Development Program, I stream-lined the Hi-Rise class to better train newly promoted fire officers. I have also been published twice in the Fire Engineering Magazine.
Throughout the years, my wife and I have been active members of our community. Whether it was volunteering with Catholic Charities delivering furniture to families in need all around Orange County, working at the Sacred Heart soup kitchen and food pantry, or coaching in any one of the local youth sports programs. Now what my wife and I are most proud of is we started, and ran for ten years, a soccer program which provided children with special needs the ability to play soccer with their peers, a most rewarding endeavor. I also continue to teach religious education to the 8th Grade Confirmation Class in Saint Anastasia Parish, this Fall I will see my 14th class receive their Confirmation.
